Christa Carretero is the Founder and Chef of Cooking Girl. She is a University of Oklahoma graduate. In 2003 Christa decided it was time for a career change and moved to San Francisco where she attended the California Culinary Academy. While attending the CCA she ate her way through San Francisco, from most of the fine dining restaurants to the best hole in the walls around. In between eating, Christa found time to extern at Chez Panisse and work at a Kimpton owned restaurant, Ponzu.
After graduating in 2004, she moved to Washington, D.C. where she was hired by Chef Jose Andres to work with Think Food Group. She started her culinary tour at Think Food Group working at Jaleo and then moving on to help open Oyamel. Christa's last and final stop on the tour was at Cafe Atlantico, Minibar where she spent four years working under her mentor Katsuya Fukushima.
Christa continues to keep up with current food trends. She still works from time to time with Think Food Group and has worked with other chefs such as Guillermo Pernot, Douglas Rodriguez and Diana Kennedy. She has also traveled to Spain to learn the craft of cheese-making.
